NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma indoor track & field teams open the 2008 season with a trip to Fayetteville, Ark., for Friday's Arkansas Invitational.
Oklahoma is coming off record indoor seasons on both the men's and women's side as both teams posted record finishes in Big 12 Indoor history finishing third and fourth, respectively.
The Oklahoma men, ranked 17th in the Trackwire Top 25, return Big 12 60-meter champion in Marcus Pugh and NCAA Indoor All-American pole vaulter Chip Heuser while the women also welcome back one indoor All-America honoree in triple jumper Toni Smith.
Twenty-eight newcomers dot the Oklahoma roster which welcomes back 39 student-athletes from 2007.

The first meet of the year will be an early test as several notable teams are in the field at both events. The Sooner men face No. 9 Arkansas and No. 10 Baylor as well as in-state foes Oklahoma State and Tulsa. The No. 9 Arkansas and No. 17 Mississippi highlight the field facing the Sooner women.
The event is slated to begin with the shot put and high jump at 12 p.m. at Arkansas' Randal Tyson Track Complex.
