OSAKA, Japan - Former Sooner and Olympian Laverne Jones was knocked out of the 11th IAAF World Athletics Championships Thursday.

With a .139 reaction time, Jones (23.34) had the best start of her career and of any competitor in the field, but it did not translate into success as she finished eighth in her semifinal heat, and 15th out of the remaining 15 sprinters, of the women's 200-meter dash.

Defending world champion Allyson Felix (22.21) appeared to have the field covered after defeating Jamaican Veronica Campbell (22.44) in semifinal heat one despite identical reaction times at the start.

American Sanya Richards (22.50) was the other semifinal heat winner.
