KINGSTON, Jamaica -- Danny McFarlane defended his national title Saturday night as several Sooner alums were among those high on the leaderboard after day two at the Jamaican National Athletics Championships.
McFarlane won the national championship in the 400-meter hurdles with a season best run of 48.52, a title he has won the four of the last five years since switching from the 400-meter dash. He was second in 2005.
McFarlane, a two-time Olympian, was a member of three NCAA Championship 4x400-meter relays and a nine-time All-America honoree while at Oklahoma (1995-1997). He earned the silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games.
Jerome Douglas (1995-97) placed third in the men's triple jump final with a best leap of 51 feet, 8.75 inches (15.77 meters).
Michael Blackwood (1999-2000) was third (46.42) in the 400-meter dash semifinals and will appear in Sunday's final.
Aldwyn Sappleton (2001-05) was third in the 800-meter run preliminaries on Friday with the final running Sunday.
