SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Dermillo Wise earned All-America honors in the men's long jump at the NCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday night, becoming the second Sooner to do so in as many days.

Wise had a best leap of 24 feet, 2.50 inches (7.38 meters), despite an extreme headwind of 4.2 meters per second, to place eighth and score the first point for the Sooner men.

"It was a hard day, you know, with a 4.2 headwind," Wise said. "You move up (on take off), you move back. Can't get a fair jump. You have to take what you can get."

DaShalle Andrews of Cal State Northridge and Tone Belt of Lousiville tied for best jump at 25-2.50.  Andrews was awarded the national title by having the better second-best jump.

Wise represented the first Sooner long jumper at the NCAA Championships since 1988 when Russell Adams earned All-America honors.

Jessica Eldridge was one of 12 qualifiers for Saturday's final of the women's 1500-meter run.  Eldridge was seventh in her heat and overall at 4:18.46.

"This race was more physical - more elbows, more kicking," Eldridge said. "When you get a lot of good girls in one race, this is what happens."

Eldridge had to fight from the back of the pack after the first 400 meters as the top nine finishers in heat two ran faster than the heat-one winner.
