April 28, 2007 | Softball
LAWRENCE, Kan. Junior Lauren Eckermann struck out 10 Jayhawks, but two costly errors allowed Kansas to beat the No. 3 Sooners, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at the Arrocha Ballpark in Lawrence, Kan. The Sooners fell to 48-6 on the season and 13-4 in Big 12 action while the Jayhawks pushed their mark to 32-18-1 and 7-8 in conference.
The Big 12's leading offense was held to two hits in the contest, marking a season low in Big 12 action. The only Sooners to reach base were Susan Ogden and Savannah Long, who both recorded singles in the game.
KU pitcher Kassie Humphreys struck out six Sooners in the complete game while only scattering two hits.
Eckermann was equally impressive in the circle as she struck out 10 Jayhawks and only allowed five hits and no earned runs. The Big 12 leader in wins fell to 30-3 on the season.

The Sooner defense, which ranks first in the Big 12, had two costly errors in the bottom of the third to give KU the lead. KU's Val Chapple led off the frame and reached base after OU second baseman Traci Dickenson dropped a pop up. Chapple moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and Dougie McCaulley followed that with a single to second, but another throwing error by Dickenson to home plate advanced Chapple across the plate to score KU's first run.
Kansas followed that with back-to-back singles with Amanda Jobe's RBI single down the right field line scoring KU's second run before Eckermann could record the final two outs of the inning.
Following the third frame, Eckermann gave up only hit in the final three innings but the OU offense couldn't ever get in a rhythm.
Oklahoma will close out the Big 12 regular season on Sunday with a 1 p.m. meeting against Kansas in the series finale.
