Heuser Hits Auto Mark in Victory

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. University of Oklahoma junior and All-American pole vaulter Chip Heuser became just the fifth Sooner all-time to cross the 18-foot benchmark indoors with his win in the event at the Tyson Invitational Saturday night.

Heuser posted a personal best en route to victory at 18 feet, 0.50 inches (5.50 meters). With the result, Heuser automatically qualifies for the NCAA National Championships.

Oklahoma's men's distance medley relay broke the school record with its second-place finish.

The DMR posted a combined time of 9 minutes, 44.59 seconds, besting the indoor record of 9:48.38 set in 1990. The mark was also provisionally qualified the OU quartet of Logan Jones, Frankie Wright, Brayon Brown and Rob Sorrell for the NCAA Championships.

Texas won the relay race in 9:38.86.

The OU men's 4x400-meter relay was also second in its race, running in a season best 3:12.44. The OU women were fourth in the 4x400, finishing in a season best 3:41.44 which ranks fifth on OU's all-time performance list.

Senior Yolanda Goff (7.51) was fourth in the consolation finals of the women's 60-meter dash.

Shardae Boutte was sixth in the men's triple jump at 52-0.00 (15.85).

Freshman Kevin Snyder was sixth in the men's high jump, clearing 6 feet, 5.50 inches (1.97 meters).

Anya-Mae Davidson finished eighth in the women's 3,000-meter run. Teammate Aja Clark was 17th with a personal indoor best of 10:08.17.

Pole vaulters Jessica Brown and Sarah Pappas were sixth and seventh, respectively. Both cleared 12-0.75 (3.68).

Portions of the Tyson Invitational will be televised Sunday, Feb. 11, on ESPN2 at 12 p.m. Central.

OU hosts the Sooner Indoor Open at the Mosier Indoor Track & Field Center in Norman, Saturday, Feb. 17.
