NORMAN, Okla. Kevin Bookout opened his final season as a Sooner in grand style with a dominant win in the shot put at the Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Friday night.
Bookout put a distance of 61 feet, 5.00 inches (18.72 meters), an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, on his final attempt to claim a decisive victory over Louisiana Tech's Jason Morgan (56-3.75). The senior's dominance was such that he could have passed on the remainder of his attempts and still won. Bookout's first attempt traveled 59-10.00 (18.24).
The competition was the first collegiate indoor meet for the Stroud native. Bookout spent his four previous winters on the basketball team.
