WACO, Texas -- The Sooners' usual suspects survived the preliminary rounds of the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday, May 13, at Baylor University.
Sprinters Yolanda Goff and Leslie Cole advanced to the finals of both the women's 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Goff was third overall in the preliminary heats, running 11.57. Cole was eighth in 11.69. The pair finished seventh (23.61) and eighth (23.72), respectively, in the 200 prelims.
Sophomore Marcus Pugh pulled the double qualifier in the men's 100 and 200, running 10.53 (eight best) and 21.23 (seventh).

Tijahnni Newton claimed the final qualifying position in the women's 400-meter dash with a lap-run of 55.00.
OU's three hurdlers all passed to the final round of the men's 110-meter hurdles. Dermillo Wise was fourth in 13.88, a personal record and best run by a Sooner in five years. Jason Stanley (13.93) and Tony Francis (14.15) were seventh and eighth, respectively.
Wise also qualified for the 400-meter intermediate hurdles finals with a seventh-overall run (51.64) in the preliminary rounds.
Freshman Amy Backel scored the first points for the Sooners, finishing sixth in the heptathlon. Backel moved up from seventh after Friday's four events with a winning javelin throw of 125 feet, 9 inches (38.32 meters).
Kevin Bookout just missed earning the men's first points after finishing ninth in the discus. Bookout's 170-08 (52.02) throw was less than three feet shorter than the final scorer.
Sunday's highlights include Cale Drumright, ranked second best in the conference, in the men's javelin throw, as well as Bookout in the shot put and All-Americans Scott Martin and Chip Heuser in the men's pole vault.
