Blanton, Kite Highlight T&F Anniversary Team

May 10, 2006 | Track and Field

DALLAS The Big 12 Conference has announced its Track & Field 10th Anniversary Team, as voted by the league's head coaches.  The University of Oklahoma's DaBryan Blanton (2003-05) and Ryan Kite (1994-97) were selected to the men's team.

In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must have been a top finisher at the Indoor and/or Outdoor Big 12 Track & Field Championships.

Blanton dominated the short sprints during his time at OU. The Forney, Texas, native arrived on a football scholarship, but made his mark in track & field.

Blanton, a five-time All-American, won the Big 12 outdoor 100-meter dash title three straight years (2003-05) and claimed the indoor 60-meter dash in 2004.  He also won consecutive indoor 60 national championships in 2004 and 2005.

Kite's senior season marked the first year for the Big 12 Conference, but his accomplishments were too great to go without merit.

At the 1997 Big 12 championship meets, Kite won the indoor 600-yard dash as well as helping the team's 4x400-meter relay to a sweep of the indoor and outdoor titles.  That year, the OU men's 4x400 also claimed top prize at both the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championships.

Anniversary teams are being chosen for each conference sport during the 2005-06 season in celebration of the Big 12's 10th Anniversary.
