J.D. Martin Invitational Continues Saturday

NORMAN, Okla. -- The sixth annual J.D. Martin Invitational continues Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Mosier Indoor Track just east of the Gaylord Family - Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Among those competing will be athletes from Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Barton County Community College, Langston, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Tulsa, St. Gregory's and UT-Arlington.

Field events begin at 10 a.m. with the women's weight throw.  Running events begin at 12:30 p.m. with the women's mile run.

The women's pentathlon was held Friday. Deidra Wesley of the University of North Texas won the event for the second straight year, scoring 3,668 points.  Oklahoma's Amy Backel scored 3,356.  SaVita Spellmon (unattached) placed third with 2,944.

Wesley won the 60-meter hurdles (9.16), high jump (5-8.75) and 800-meter run (2:33.69).  Backel was victorius in the shot put (44-1.5) and Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Joviann Thompson in the long jump (17-6.75).
