What brought you to the University of Oklahoma?
“The program. I had been recruited by the coaches and then I decided to come on a visit. The main thing was that when I came to visit, I felt very comfortable here.”
How do you feel about the change of coaching staff? You and the team?
“At first I was just shocked, but I think that it will be a good experience for the whole team. The staff is really involved with us and are totally focused on each one of us.
“Each coach is really into their job. They are very personable with everyone.”
How do you feel about Dana Boone, the sprints coach?
“She is a great coach. I have never had a female coach before so I was a little hesistant. She is great though. She can relate to us because she is a female.
“She has been at LSU and Texas, so she knows what she is talking about. She is bringing her technique and skills with her. This is going to help us raise our level of talent.”
What is Coach Boone's coaching style?
“I would say both one-on-one and a team focus. On sprint days she will work with each of us with what we need specifically. On other days we will do a team focus, working on overall technique. She has a good balance in coaching styles.”
What are your future plans after graduation in May?
“I am going to go to graduate school. If do not get in at first, I am going to do research in psychology. I will be trying to build up my resume. I want to get my masters in counseling and the goal is to hopefully get my doctorate degree.”
What is you favorite part about being a Sooner?
“The atmosphere. Everyone here is really involved in all the activities that are going on. Everyone supports the athletics department as a whole, not just one sport.”
What is the most important characteristic a sprinter must have?
“I think the most important charactistic is to hard work. You have to come to practice every day and work hard. You can't come to practice with a bad attitude, if you do you aren't going to get the most out of practice. I try to have the a positive attitude at every practice.”
What are some goals for the 2006 season?
“The sprints core has few freshmen, so we are very experienced. Our overall goal is changing our attitude about winning. We want to improve over last year. The team's goal is to score more points at the conference meet.
“My own personal goal is to be a contributor and score points at the conference meet.”
How is the coaching staff helping to achieve these goals?
“Coach Boone, in the beginning, started talking about attitudes. Now that we have been with her for a few months she is helping with techniques and that is boosting our confidence.”
Where is your favorite place to compete?
“I would have to say Iowa State University. Their indoor track is 300 yards, instead of 200 yards like most indoor tracks. I think it is a mental thing. I think that most people see it as a easier track since you only run one and a half laps instead of two.”
What is one of the most memorable track you have been to?
“I would have to say the Drake Relays last year. The weather was cold, but their track was a great place to run. I ran my personal best 400 time in my leg of the 4x400 relay.”
What are your hopes for the season and the future of the program?
“I just hope that we have a good year. I hope everyone tries their best to score points at conference. I think the main thing the coaches are looking for is improvement.
“I just hope that the program contiues to grow and improve even when I am gone.”
