NORMAN, Okla. Three members of the University of Oklahoma women's golf team were recently named to the All-American Scholar Golf Team by the National Golf Coaches Association. Senior Amparo Gala, sophomore Kelly Jacques and graduate Emily Milberger were among the 199 women's golfers chosen to receive the award.
Gala, who was named to the team last year, averaged 80.76 strokes per round. Her best performance of the year came at the Jeannine McHaney Invitational, where she fired a season-low 71 and earned a career-high second place finish. A biochemistry major, Gala was also named a first-team Academic All-Big 12 member and earned special distinction for maintaining a 4.00 GPA for two semesters.
Jacques, who is majoring in health and sports sciences, averaged 78.79 strokes per round on the year. She tied for 14th, her best finish of the season, and recorded a career-low 71 at the Kent Youel Invitational.
With a 75.75 stroke average, Milberger was OU's leading golfer last season. She ended her senior year with seven top-20 finishes, including two top-10 finishes. Milberger, who graduated in May with a degree in marketing, was chosen as one of 24 Big 12 student-athletes to receive the Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarship for her outstanding academic achievements as an undergraduate.
The selection criteria to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent of all academic honors in collegiate athletics. To be selected, student-athletes must maintain a 3.50 cumulative GPA and have competed in at least 66 percent of their team's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.
