Sappleton Wins 800 at Cyclone Classic

Sappleton Finishes Eighth in the 800 at CAC Games

NORMAN, Okla. -- Aldwyn Sappleton finished eighth in the 800-meter run Monday night at the Central America and Caribbean Senior Athletics Championships with a 1:53.00. The meet was held in Nassau, The Bahamas.

Sappleton had advanced to the final with the third best time in the preliminaries, recording a 1:51.95.

Sappleton, who won the Jamaican senior national title in the 800 to advance to the CAC Games, still needs to meet the world qualifying standard in the 800-meter to be a member of the Jamaican team that will travel to the IAAF World Championships in Helsinki, Finland, Aug. 8-14.

Sappleton repeated as the Jamaican senior champion with a 1:49.40, his season best time in the 800 this year. The Jamaican national meet was held June 23-25 in Kingston.
