Dubois Establishes Career Best Mark in the 3000

Dubois Records Career Best in the 10,000

April 06, 2005 | Track and Field

AUSTIN, Texas -- Senior Jackie Dubois made the most of her invitation to run in the 10,000 at the 78th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, finishing 10th in the 10,000-meter run with a 39:12.67. The mark was a career best for the Lawrence, Kan., runner and ranks as the 10th best time in school history.

Dubois was one of four Sooners to compete on Wednesday in Austin, the first day of one of the oldest collegiate track meets in the country. Teammate Aja Clark finishing 13th in the 10,000, posting an OU career best of 39:25.27. Redshirt freshman Tyler Schmiedeberg was entered in the men's 10,000 but did not finish the race.

Senior Dan Strong completed the first day of the decathlon in 13th place with 3,475 points. Strong, from Enid, posted a career best first day point total of 3,475, an improvement in his previous best by 71 points. He also established career best decathlon marks in the shot put (40-2.25), the high jump (6-3.5) and the 400 (51.55). He has two of his better events upcoming on Thursday. He will open the final day of competition in the decathlon with the 110-meter high hurdles. The third event of the second day of competition is the pole vault, both potentially high scoring events for Strong. His previous first day career best total came at the 2004 Big 12 Outdoor Championships, a meet that he finished seventh in overall, a career best finish for Strong.

In addition to Strong's competition in the final five events of the decathlon on Thursday, the men's and women's 4 x 800-meter relay teams will compete at the Texas Relays. The final group of Sooners, who are scheduled to compete in Austin, will leave Thursday while the OU athletes who are competing in the Euler State Farm/ESU Relays in Emporia, Kan., on Saturday will leave for that meet on Friday.
