AMES, Iowa -- Junior Blake Culp recorded the eighth best time in school history in the men's 5000 during the first day of competition at the 14th annual Cyclone Classic. Culp finished 40th with a 14:58.11 in a race that featured 76 runners.

Long known as one of the top indoor meets, the Cyclone Classic draws more than 60 teams and more than 1,000 athletes for its two day run at Lied Recreation Center.

Jason Baird finished 25th in the long jump with a 22-0.75 as the majority of the Sooners will compete on Saturday's events of the Cyclone Classic.

OU split its squads this weekend with the long and triple jumpers, middle distance and distance runners and hurdlers and sprinters coming to Ames. The remainder of the team is in Fayetteville, Ark., for the Powered by Tyson meet which is hosted by the University of Arkansas.
