Burns threw 141-2 on her third throw in the preliminaries and was in seventh place entering the final three throws. She remained in seventh place until the final throw of the competition. The mark beat the NCAA Regional standard but is not her best throw of the season. She has a previous season best of 143-0 and those marks represent her top two collegiate efforts.
Junior Dan Strong is within 25 points of scoring in the decathlon after posting a career best first day total of 3,404 points. He had four season bests in the first five events today and tied a career best in the . His season bests came in the 100-meter dash with an 11.81, in the high jump with a 6-2.25, in the long jump with a 21-4 and in the shot put with a 39-1.25. His effort in the shot put tied a career best in that event in the decathlon.

For the OU women in the heptathlon, Veronica Clayborne stands in 11th place while Chaundra Allard is in 12 after the first four events.
Clayborne had three season bests and one career best in action Thursday while Allard had season bests in every event. For Clayborne, her bests came in the 200-meter dash with a 26.58, in the 100-meter hurdles with a 15.43 and in the shot put with a 31-1, which also is a career best for her in the combined events. Allard had a 26.87 in the 200-meter dash, a 14.95 in the 100-meter hurdles, a 4-11.75 in the high jump and 34-0 in the shot put.
Darren Hutchins was OU's only other scheduled competitor on Thursday but he cramped up during the 10,000 meter run and didn't finish the race.
Action resumes in the meet at 10 a.m. Friday with the remaining five events of the decathlon, the remaining three events in the heptathlon, six field event finals and preliminary races in 14 events. The field event finals begin at 2 p.m. with the running prelims starting at 4:30 p.m.
