Blanton Named Big 12 T&F Athlete of the Week

January 19, 2004 | Track and Field

Sophomore DaBryan Blanton was named Big 12 Male Track and Field Athlete of the Week Monday following his record-setting performance in Saturday's Oklahoma Track Classic. For Blanton, it marked the first time to earn indoor athlete of the week honors after earning the award once last spring as a freshman. He also was named Big 12 Track and Field Male Freshman of the Year last June.

Blanton won the 60-meter dash title with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 6.62 at the Classic. The time is the best in the country to date. The time set a meet record and a facility record. It also lowered Blanton's school record time in the event. He won the race by 0.14.

Blanton had posted the lowest time in the prelims, covering the 60 meters with an NCAA provisional time of 6.70. He later ran a leg on OU's second place mile relay team.

The Sooners head to South Carolina this weekend for the Clemson Invitational on Saturday.
