Barrington is the top returning prep pole vaulter in the country. He was ranked third overall at the conclusion of the 2003 outdoor season with a best vault of 17-3.25. He was the only non-senior among the top three in the DyeStat ranking.
Barrington, who competes for Carroll High School, won the 2003 Texas 5A state title and was the runner-up at the 2003 Great Southwest meet. He was the runner-up at the 2002 Texas 4A state meet.
Moore, who competes for Northwestern High School in Miami, won the state long jump title last spring with a jump of 19-3.75. She finished second in the state in the triple jump with a 40-5.5 effort. She, too, ranked among the top athletes in both events in the final DyeStat high school rankings last spring.
Moore also runs the hurdles, finishing fourth in the 300 meter hurdles in the Greater Miami Athletic Conference meet last year. She was a member of Northwestern's 2001 state championship team.
“We are pleased that these two outstanding student-athletes have decided to continue their competitive careers at the University of Oklahoma,” said co-head track and field coaches Jill Lancaster and Rodney Price. “Both are among the best in the country in their events and we expect them to continue to add to our strong tradition of success in those events.”
The Sooners, currently ranked 14th in the country on the men's side by Trackwire, will host their first indoor meet of the season on Saturday. Action will begin at 10 a.m. with field events at the Mosier Indoor Facility. Running events are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. Admission for the meet is $5 for adults and $2 for children. Parking for spectators is available at the OU Duck Pond lot which is located on Brooks Street, directly north of the Mosier Indoor Facility.
The scored meet will feature competitors from OU, Texas A&M, Baylor, TCU and Southern Methodist.
