Softball Begins Fall Schedule Tonight

September 24, 2003 | Softball

NORMAN, Okla. The Oklahoma softball team begins its fall schedule with Seminole State, Wednesday night at 7 p.m., at the OU Softball Complex. The home contest begins a busy week for the Sooner squad who will also enter the Oklahoma Shootout in Oklahoma City this weekend.

"Our goal is to make progress," said OU head coach Patty Gasso. "Of course we want to win but we aren't going to pull out all the stops to do that. Our mission is to find who fits in and make them better at those positions."

OU hosts Seminole State in the first contest on the newly named Marita Hynes Field.

OU enters the Oklahoma Shootout with fellow participants North Texas, Oklahoma State, St. Gregory's and Tulsa. The weekend slate begins with an 8 p.m. game against St. Gregory's on the north field at the ASA Don E. Porter Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.

The Sooners return to the field for twin-bills on Saturday and Sunday. OU faces Tulsa (3 p.m.) and North Texas (7 p.m.) on the main stadium field on Saturday, before dueling with Carl Albert State (11:45) and Southwestern Oklahoma State (3:45) on Sunday.

The fall schedule will give Sooner fans a peek at the eight newcomers, including blue-chippers Norrelle Dickson, Stacia Aleman, Jamie Fox, Alison Horne, Jessica Johnson and Amber Spaulding.

The fall home opener against Seminole State is free to the general public.
