DES MOINES, Iowa - On a day when the meet was held up by thunderstorms, the Sooner relay entries took the spotlight in the final day of action at the 93rd annual Drake Relays Saturday.
The women's shuttle hurdle relay finished second with a school record 57.58. Running on that relay were Fallon Carter, Sand Swaby, Chaundra Allard and Tiffany Davis. Davis later finished sixth in the 100-meter hurdles with a 14.33.
The men's sprint tmedley relay was third with a 3:22.72. Running on that foursome were L'eron George, Raoul Harvey, Aldwyn Sappleton and Moses Washington. The men's 1600-meter relay finished fourth with a 3:09.29. That quartet included Ernest Lewis, Harvey, Washington and Sappleton. The women's sprint medley relay also was fourth with a 3:58.35. That relay included Alicia Emanuel, LaKisha Robinson, Kim Thomas and Aisha Stringer.
The remaining highlights for the Sooners on the final day were posted by former Sooner runners. Alesha Peel won the women's special 100-meter hurdles; LaBoris Bean was second in the men's special 400-meter intermediate hurdles and fifth in the special 200-meter dash; and Joey Scott was fifth in the men's special 110-meter high hurdles. All compete for the Pioneer Track Club Elite team.
The Sooners will head to the Texas Invitational Saturday for the final major competition before the Big 12 Championships May 17-19. The Sooner pole vaulters are scheduled to compete in the Abilene Christian Invitational on May 9.
