NORMAN, Okla. - It's the final weekend that qualifying marks may be posted for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships and University of Oklahoma athletes will head to Ames, Iowa, and Lincoln, Neb., for Qualifier meets.
The meet in Ames is scheduled for Friday while the action in Lincoln is set for Saturday. Sooners headed to Ames include Aldwynn Sappleton, who will compete in the 800 and as the anchor leg of the 1600-meter relay, Tiffany Davis in the 60-meter hurdles, Aisha Stringer in the 800, Sand Swaby in the high jump, Quentin Morgan in the 60-meter dash, and Raoul Harvey, Ernest Lewis and Moses Washington, the remaining members of the 1600-meter relay. Brontez Steele is the alternate for the relay.
Several of the Sooner pole vaulters will travel to Lincoln for that meet on Saturday. While a final travel roster is not set, those scheduled to compete include Leslie Dunlap, Lindsey Bourne, Michael Westlund, Austin Landreth and Robin Hanna.
The Schedule
Field events begin at noon in Ames with running events set to start at 2 p.m. The final running event is set for 7 p.m. In Lincoln, the women pole vaulters will begin competition at 11 a.m. with the men to follow at 1:30 p.m.
The National Ranking
The Sooner men are ranked ninth in this week's Trackwire 25 poll. OU is one of six Big 12 men's squads listed in the top 25 and is the second best conference team (Nebraska is eighth). On the women's side, five conference teams are ranked with Colorado as the highest at a tie for ninth. A power ranking, the poll projects the outcome at the NCAA Championships.
The Last Time Out
A pair of Sooners returned from last weekend's Big 12 Track and Field Championships as champions. Sophomore Leslie Dunlap, who won the Big 12 outdoor pole vault title last May, added the indoor title with her vault of 13-3.75 on Friday. That winning vault also set a Big 12 meet record. On Saturday, redshirt freshman Aldwynn Sappleton won the 600-yard title with a season best time of 1:08.76. The Sooner men finished ninth in the team standings and the women were 12th in one of the closest Big 12 meets in conference history.
Several other Sooners had impressive performances in the meet. Quentin Morgan, who recently joined the team from the OU football squad, set a school record with a 6.76 in the semifinals of the 60-meter dash. He finished sixth in the final and senior Edwin Jones was seventh. The men's 1600-meter relay team (Raoul Harvey, Moses Washington, Ernest Lewis, Sappleton) posted its best mark of the season to finish second. In the process, the Sooners beat the NCAA provisional standard by nearly two seconds.
Other top Sooner performances included Lindsey Bourne, fourth in the pole vault, Taylor Cates, eighth in the heptathlon, Amanda Warehime, sixth in the shot put, Megan Crystal, eighth in the shot put, Aisha Stringer, sixth in the 800, Kim Thomas, seventh in the 800, men's distance medley relay (Joey McNair, Brontez Steele, Sappleton, Jimmy Buchanan), fifth, women's distance medley relay (Kim Thomas, Robinson, Stringer, Kelli O'Rourke), seventh, women's 1600-meter relay (Alicia Emanuel, Stringer, Kim Thomas, Robinson), eighth, Michael McNamara, third in the pole vault, Michael Westlund, fourth in the pole vault, and Austin Landreth, tied for fifth in the pole vault.
NCAA Qualifiers

Michael McNamara became OU's first automatic qualifier when he cleared 18-0.5 at the Oklahoma Track Classic. Leslie Dunlap moved from provisional to automatic with her effort at the J.D. Martin Invitational on Feb. 2.
OU has eight provisional qualifiers. Freshman Jason Stanley got an NCAA provisional in the 60-meter hurdles in his first collegiate meet on Dec. 1, then dropped his mark to 7.79 on Feb. 9. Junior Michael Westlund improved his provisional mark to 17-10.5 at the J.D. Martin and freshman Austin Landreth cleared 17-0.5 to join the provisional list, also at the J.D. Martin Invitational. The men's 1600-meter relay (Moses Washington, Ernest Lewis, Aldwynn Sappleton, Brontez Steele) got a provisional time at the ISU Invitational Feb. 9, then lowered the time to 3:08.87 at the Big 12 Championships. Raoul Harvey ran in place of Steele at the conference meet. Sappleton became a provisional qualifier in OU's final home meet of the season with a 1:50.55 in the 800-meter run on Feb. 16.
