Women's Golf Leads After 36 Holes

Day One Results
NORMAN, Okla. - Sophomore Allison Johnson carded a 2-under-par 142 over 36 holes of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic today to help give the University of Oklahoma a nine-stroke advantage heading into final-round play at the par-72 Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course. The Sooners shot a two-round 590 (+14) and find themselves ahead of second-place Texas Tech (599) and third-place Kansas State (602). Fellow Big 12 teams Baylor (fourth place), Nebraska (fifth) and Texas A&M (seventh) also fared well among the 15 teams competing.
Texas Tech's Stephanie Dukes fired identical rounds of 68 and holds a six-stroke lead over Johnson in the individual race. Johnson posted a 72 this morning and followed with a 70 after lunch. Dukes' second-round effort helped the Red Raiders post a 292 in afternoon action, the lowest round of the day.
Kansas State's Christine Boucher stands in third place after shooting a 1-under 143 and is followed by Arkansas-Little Rock's Maria Jose Hurtado, who shot a 1-over 145. OU's Wendy Martin and Texas A&M's Mimi Epps are tied for fifth place after they each carded a 3-over 147.
Sooners Jennifer Tannehill (149/+5), Lisa Meldrum (152/+8) and Betsy Berry (161/+17) qualified for the tournament last week, while Hope Edge (156/+12) and Marsha Gonzaga (161/+17) are competing as individuals. Kellie Jamison withdrew from the tournament. She shot an 88 in the first round.
Final-round action will start at 7:44 a.m. Tuesday. Oklahoma will tee off starting at 9:20 a.m.
