NORMAN, Okla. - L'eron George, who will be a sophomore this fall on the track team at the University of Oklahoma, has had a busy and successful summer of competition.
George earned a trip to the Canada vs. USA Junior Match after his performance at the U.S. Junior Nationals in June. The Dallas, Texas, native finished fourth in the men's 200-meter dash with a 21.68 in Canada-USA Junior meet last week, trailing a pair of Americans and one Canadian. He ran a 21.68 in the finals. Later, he teamed with two of the runners who finished ahead of him to give the U.S. team a 40.70 in the 400-meter relay for a first-place finish. The meet was held in Montreal.
George finished fifth in the 200 at the U.S. Junior Nationals with a 21.33, a mark that was just .01 seconds above his best 200-meter mark as a freshman. He also finished fifth in the 100-meter dash at the Junior Nationals with a 10.48. That mark beat the qualifying standard for the World Junior Championships to be held in Santiago, Chile, Oct. 17-22, 2000. He earned U.S. Junior National All-America honors for those performances. He had earned U.S. Junior National All-America honors in the 200 in 1999. Last summer, he participated in the 200-meter dash at the Junior Pan Am Games and was a member of the United States' record-setting 400-meter relay at the Junior Pan Am Games.
