NORMAN, Okla. - Michael McNamara, a sophomore from Tulsa, and Kurt Hanna, OU's volunteer pole vault coach, are among the 26 competitors in tonight's pole vault preliminaries in the U.S. Olympic Trials. The prelims begin at 9:45 p.m. (PST) on the campus of Cal State-Sacramento, in Sacramento, Calif.
The final will be held on Sunday 11 a.m.
Former Sooner sprinter Shomari Wilson is running tonight in the 100-meter dash prelims. Wilson, who is from Oklahoma City, ranks 27th on the performance list heading into tonight's prelims. The semifinals for the 100 will be on Saturday at 4:01 p.m. (PST) with the final set for 5:48 p.m. (PST) Saturday.
McNamara ranks 24th on the performance list. He qualified for the Olympic Trials with his victory at the Abilene Christian Classic in May. He cleared a career-best 18-4.5 to win the title. The mark is the second best in school history. He also qualified for both the NCAA Indoor and NCAA Outdoor meets this year. Hanna ranks 22nd on the performance list. A former All-American, he competed at Baylor. There are a total of 25 vaulters.
Wilson was a two-time All-American for the Sooners. His last year of competition was in 1999. He is one of 40 who have qualified for the 100-meter dash.
