Sooner Squads Open Competition At NCAA Track And Field Competition

DURHAM, N.C. - Junior LaBoris Bean ran a 50.84 to finish third in his heat but finished 13th overall in the 400-meter intermediate hurdle. The top eight qualified for the final to be held on Friday at Wallace Wade Stadium on the campus of Duke University.

Bean was ranked 20th in the country coming into the meet.

The women's 400-meter relay, ranked eighth coming in, finished 10th with a time of 44.77. The quartet of Janel Hayes, LaToyia Hinds, Jimyria Hicks and Staneshia Bell, missed qualifying for the final by just .28 seconds.

The rest of the Sooners will compete on Thursday. Pole vaulters Michael McNamara, ranked fifth heading into the meet, and Michael Westlund, ranked 12th, will be the only Sooners in a final on Thursday. Jennifer Fontenot and Michael Blackwood, ranked first entering the meet, will compete in the 400-meter semifnals In addition, the men's and women's 1600-meter relays will compete in their semifinals. The men's relay will feature Raoul Harvey, Michael Jackson, Bean and Bladkwood. The women's relay will feature Bell, Alicia Emanuel, LaKisha Robinson and Fontenot.

Finals for the 400-meter dashes and the 1600-meter relays will be held on Saturday.
