Track Squads Have Strong Performances In Austin And Edmond

AUSTIN, Texas - The Sooners had a successful day in their second day of action at the 73rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with two relays finishing in the five of their events while Jonas Lusk advanced to the final in the 110-meter high hurdles.

The women's sprint medley relay, made up of Jimyria Hicks, Staneshia Bell, Jennifer Fontenot and Aisha Stringer, finished second with a 3:53.76. The men's sprint medley relay team, made up of LaBoris Bean, Michael Blackwood, Raoul Harvey and Moses Washington, ran a 3:15.28 and finished fourth. The time ranks second on the all-time OU list. Lusk ran a 14.18, a career best, to finish second in his heat of the 110-meter hurdles and advanced to the final with the eighth-best time.

In other final action, Bambi Carson finished fourth in the discus with a 161-6. Jessica Longfors threw a 45-10 to finish fifth in the shot put. Megan Crystal was 16th in the same event with a 42-4.25. Kyle Bookout finished ninth in the discus with a throw of 161-6. Janel Hayes jumped 19-0.75 and fiished 16th in the long jump. Lindsay Harris finished 11th in the pole vault with a jump of 11-1.75. In OU's final event of the day, the women's distance medley relay, made up of Corrie Hussar, Alicia Emanuel, Alaina Dearman and Angie Prescott, finished 13th with a time of 12:25.14

In preliminary action today, Alesha Peel ran a 14.01 in the 100-meter hurdles and Sand Swaby ran a 14.41 but neither advanced to the final. Joey Scott ran a 14.66 in the 110-meter hurdles but did not advance. LaToyia Hinds finished second in her heat of the 100-meter dash with an 11.91 while Staneshia Bell ran an 11.61 to finish second in her heat but neither advanced to the final. Bell's time was a career best.

The women's 400-meter relay, made up of Hayes, Hinds, Hicks, and Bell, ran a 46.07 to finish fourth in its heat but did not qualify for the final. The women's 1600-meter relay, made up of Emanuel, LaKisha Robinson, Stringer and Fontenot, ran a 3.42.48 to finish third in its heat but was 11th overall in the prelims and did not advance to the final.

Meanwhile at the UCO Relays, several Sooners had winning performances. Dana Hillsman won the long jump with a jump of 18-6. Other winners included Sinead Holt in the 1,500-meter run with a 5:12.32, Sarah Harvey in the 5,000-meter run with a 19:41.29, Brett Corlett in the pole vault with a 15-7, Josh Howk in the shot put with a toss of 47-3, and Cecil Rose in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:11.12.

The Sooners who are in Austin will finish competition on Saturday. Next up for the entire team is the annual John Jacobs Invitational on Saturday. The high school events will be held on Friday. All action will be at the John Jacobs Track and Field.
