Sooner Hurdler Takes Drake Title

DES MOINES, Iowa -- LaBoris Bean ran a season-best 51.07 in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles to win the Drake Relays Friday. Teammate Joey Scott posted a 52.67 to finish eighth. The time for Bean also beat the NCAA provisional standard in the event.

In other final action, Michael Westlund did not clear a height in the special pole vault. Sarah Harvey finished 19th in the invitational 10,000-meter run. The women's 800-meter relay, which qualified for the final with third-fastest time, did not finish the race in the final.

In other first-day action, the men's 1600-meter relay team posted the best time in the preliminaries with a 3:07.96 to advance to Saturday's final. Raoul Harvey, Moses Washington, LaBoris Bean, and Michael Blackwood will take the best time into Saturday's final. The women's 400-meter relay, made up of Janel Hayes, LaToyia Hinds, Jimyria Hicks and Staneshia Bell, posted the fastest qualifying time with a 44.98. The women's 1600-meter relay, ran the second-best time in the preliminaries to advance to Saturday's final. The quartet of Staneshia Bell, Alicia Emanuel, LaKisha Robinson, Jennifer Fontenot posted a 3:38.59 for an NCAA provisional qualifying time.

Michael McNamara qualified for the finals in the pole vault. He was one of 17 vaulters to clear 16-5.5. Staneshia Bell qualified for the final in the 100-meter dash. She posted an 11.75 to post the sixth fastest time in the preliminaries. Alesha Peel finished fourth in her heat with a 14.09 and did not advance to the finals in the 100-meter dash. In the men's 110-meter hurdles, Jonas Lusk finished fifth in his heat with a 14.25 and Joey Scott finished second in his heat with a 14.36.
