Women's Track Leads The Way In Waco

WACO, Texas - The Sooner women led the way for OU in the second day of the Michael Johnson/SW Bell Classic as four Sooners won events in today's Michael Johnson/SW Bell Classic at Hart/Patterson Track and Field in Waco.

Bambi Carson won the shot put and finished second in the discus. It was Carson's third win of the season in the shot put (fourth overall). Staneshia Bell added a first place in the 100-meter dash, Janel Hayes won the long jump and LaKisha Robinson won the collegiate 400-meter dash. For Bell, it was her fifth win of the season and third in the 100-meter dash. For Hayes, it was her first win of the season after finishing second once and third once. For Robinson, a freshman, it was her first collegiate title.

The women's mile relay (Staneshia Bell, Jennifer Fontenot, Jimyria Hicks and LaKisha Robinson) ran a 3:40.08 which beat the NCAA provisional mark for the mile relay.

The Sooners also got strong performances from Jonas Lusk and Joey Scott who finished two-three in the 110-meter hurdles, LaBoris Bean and Scott, who finished one-two in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, Ernest Lewis and L'eron George, who were three-four in the 200-meter dash, Michael Blackwood, who ran a season-best 45.53 to finish third in the inivtational 400-meter dash, Michael Westlund and Michael McNamara, who were two-three in the pole vault, and Aisha Stringer and Angie Prescott, who were two-three in the 800-meter run.
