Softball Goes 2-0 in Kia Klassic

FULLERTON, Calif. - - - The Oklahoma softball team continued its winnings ways today in the Kia Klassic tournament in Fullerton, Calif., picking up a run-rule victory over Oregon State, 9-0, and downing DePaul, 5-4. The Sooners play again Friday at 3 p.m. against Nevada-Las Vegas. With a win over the Rebels, Oklahoma will win its pool and move into bracket play on Saturday and Sunday.

OU owned the Beavers from start to finish as nine Sooner players recorded hits. Lead off hitter Christy Ring and shortstop Kelli Braitsch both tripled to start the game before designated player Lisa Carey knocked her fifth homer of the season over the fence in left center. Catcher Ashli Barrett highlighted the offensive attack , going 3-for-4 in the game, including two home runs. Barrett has blasted 12 long balls on the season and is now tied for the OU career record at 27 with Casey Dickson and Lynette Velazquez. Rightfielder Jaime White also hit a home run, her third of the year.

Jennifer Stewart's record now stands at 16-4 on the season with the mercy-rule win over the Beavers. The sophomore gave up only three hits in six innings.

In the second game of the day, DePaul snatched the early lead, scoring one run in the top of the second and third innings. The Sooners got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third as Carey ripped a three-run homer, scoring Erin Evans and LaKisha Washington. OU scored again in the fifth when Evans came home on a single by Ring. DePaul threatened in the top of the seventh, tying the score at four. Oklahoma stopped the Blue Demons and went on to score the go ahead run as Ring singled to center field scoring Evans.

Senior Lana Moran notched her tenth win of the season in 6.2 innings of work. Stewart went to the mound in the in relief effort with two outs in the sixth, recording the team's first save of the season.
