Norman, Okla. - Former Sooners Omar Brown and Danny McFarlane returned from the World Track and Field Championships in Seville, Spain, with bronze medals from the third-place Jamaican 1,600-meter relay team. McFarlane also competed in the 400-meter dash but was eliminated in the semifinals while an administrative error kept Brown from running the 400-meter hurdles.
Earlier, Brown had finished sixth in the Pan Am Games in the 400-meter hurdles while competing for the Jamaican National Team.
Several other Sooners had impressive showings in events over the summer. At the U.S. Nationals in Eugene, Ore., Shomari Wilson competed in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. At the Jamaican Nationals, LaToya Hinds ran in the 100 and participated in the long jump, Sande Swaby competed in the hurdles, high jump and long jump, Michael Blackwood was entered in the 400, and Brown ran in the 400 and 400 hurdles.
Moses Washington finished first in the 800 at the U.S. Junior Nationals in Denton, Texas. That finish earned him a spot in the Junior Pan Am Games where he finished second and anchored the second-place U.S. 1600-meter relay team. LeRon George finished fourth in the 200 at the U.S. Junior Nationals before earning a fourth-place finish in that event at the Junior Pan Am event.
Other Sooners who competed in the U.S. Junior Nationals included Michael Westlund, who finished fourth in the pole vault, Jonas Lusk, who was a finalist in the 110-meter high hurdles and finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles, and Jimyria Hicks, who ran in the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Washington, George, Westlund and Lusk earned Junior National All-America honors for their performances.
One of the newest Sooners on the roster, Raoul Harvey competed in the World University Games in Palme, Spain, as a member of the fourth-place Jamaican 4 x 100-meter relay team.
