Ryan Rainer
  • Title:
    Assistant Coach

Ryan Rainer will enter his third season as an assistant coach at Oklahoma in 2025-26, expanding his role to work with both the men’s and women’s golf programs.

A former standout golfer at the University of Kansas, Rainer was hired by head men’s golf coach Ryan Hybl prior to the 2023-24 season and spent his first two years working exclusively with the men’s program. In 2025-26, he added responsibilities assisting head women’s golf coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. Beyond coaching, Rainer serves as the programs' liaison to both the Chip in Club, Oklahoma men’s golf’s partner organization, and the Women’s Red Tee Club, the fundraising arm for the women’s program — both dedicated to advancing OU golf.

In his second season with the Sooners, Rainer contributed to another standout year for Oklahoma, which extended its NCAA Championships streak to 14 consecutive appearances after winning the NCAA Amherst Regional. OU secured five tournament victories — the second-highest total in the country — and compiled an impressive 169-33-4 record en route to a No. 7 final national ranking. The Sooners advanced to NCAA match play for the seventh time since 2016, the most of any program during that span, after finishing fifth in stroke play. Four OU golfers earned All-America honors — the most in the nation — including Jase Summy and Drew Goodman, who were also recognized on the All-SEC team.

In his first season with the Sooners, he contributed to the team’s 13th consecutive NCAA Championship appearance, securing an NCAA Regional Championship along the way. Under his guidance, Oklahoma won three tournaments and finished as runner-up twice. Rainer played a pivotal role in the development of All-Big 12 selection and All-American Ben Lorenz, as well as Freshman All-American Ryder Cowan.

Before joining Oklahoma, Rainer spent two seasons as head coach of Norman North High School’s boys golf team, leading them to the 2022 Oklahoma 6A state title, the first ever for a Norman school. His tenure also included two regional championships and a third-place finish at the 2023 state tournament. Rainer’s teams captured 12 tournament victories, produced two all-state players, and four all-conference selections. His impressive coaching performance earned him the 2022 OSSAA Golf Coach of the Year award, as well as local and conference coach-of-the-year honors.

As a player, Rainer was a four-year letterwinner at Kansas from 2002-06, earning Academic All-Big 12 honors twice and appearing in 18 collegiate events. He was a key player under the late Ross Randall and recorded top-10 finishes in the 2002 Kansas Invitational and 2003 Cleveland Golf Collegiate Championship.

After his collegiate golf career, Rainer transitioned to the private sector, primarily working in the oil and gas industry. He later founded RMR Construction, a home-building company in Norman.

A lifelong Sooner fan, Rainer has deep ties to the University of Oklahoma. His parents are both OU graduates, and his great-grandmother, Katharyn Osterhaus, was married to James S. Buchanan, the university’s fourth president. Rainer resides in Norman with his wife, Amanda, and their daughter, Piper.
