NORMAN — Using seven two-out runs and a pair of long balls, No. 3 Oklahoma (36-3, 9-1 SEC) defeated Kentucky (22-17, 1-12 SEC), 10-2, in five innings to open the series Thursday, April 2.
Kai Minor paced all batters with three hits, three runs and three RBIs, while
Audrey Lowry spun four innings on the way to her 17th win.
Kendall Wells upped her home run total to 28 and
Kasidi Pickering homered for the second game in a row.
OU 10, Kentucky 2
The Wildcats pounced out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on three singles through the infield.
The OU power reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the inning. Minor walked and Wells homered well past the loge boxes in center to tie the game. Three batters later, Pickering hit the go-ahead solo shot to left center for a 3-2 lead.
Ailana Agbayani doubled off the wall in center field to open the second inning. After Kentucky's Abby Hammond worked consecutive groundouts, Minor came up with a two-out RBI single to center to give OU a 4-2 lead.
Minor delivered with two outs once more, singling in
Sydney Barker and Pickering to extend the lead to 6-2. After reaching via a bunt earlier in the frame,
Abby Dayton came around to score on a wild pitch. The lead became 9-2 after another two-out two-RBI single, this time from
Gabbie Garcia.
Berkley Zache fanned two in a scoreless fifth before
Ella Parker sent the Sooners home with an RBI double to complete the run-rule.
