Men's Golf Opens Spring Season at Puerto Rico Classic
February 08, 2026 | Men's Golf
NORMAN — After closing the fall campaign with a dominant win, No. 14 Oklahoma opens its spring season Monday at the Puerto Rico Classic in Canóvanas at Grande Reserve Golf Club. The 54-hole tournament will be played over three days. The field features four teams ranked inside the top 25 of the latest Clippd rankings, including No. 1 Virginia and No. 2 LSU.
The Sooners won the event in 2022 with a tournament-record score of 805 (-59) and defended the title in 2023 with an 834 (-30). The -59 mark in 2022 stood as the best vs. par score in program history for a standard event until Oklahoma went 63-under to win the Ka'anapali Classic in the fall of 2025. Overall, OU has competed in the event 18 times, claiming two team titles, four runner-up finishes and two third-place finishes, along with two individual medalists: Chris Gotterup (2022) and Quade Cummins (2020).
The 2026 Puerto Rico Classic marks Oklahoma's eighth consecutive appearance at the event, as the Sooners have opened their spring schedule there every year since 2018. OU finished fifth in each of the last two editions of the tournament.
Head coach Ryan Hybl debuts a new lineup headlined by All-Americans Ryder Cowan, Jase Summy and Clark Van Gaalen, along with experienced Sooner PJ Maybank III. True freshman Adam Anderson will carry the fifth bag for Oklahoma.
Competing unattached as individuals, Asher Whitaker will also play in Puerto Rico, along with true freshman Coltrane Mittag, who joined the roster in January and will make his collegiate debut.
The field includes host Purdue, College of Charleston, No. 2 LSU, Georgia, Iowa, Louisville, Marquette, Minnesota, No. 14 Oklahoma, South Carolina, No. 18 Tennessee, Wisconsin, Ohio State, North Florida and No. 1 Virginia.
Live scoring will be available on Clippd.
Tee times are set for Monday's opening round as the Sooners get started at 6:30 a.m. CT.
