NORMAN – The No. 21 Oklahoma wrestling team continues its dual slate with a back-to-back home weekend inside McCasland Field House, welcoming a pair of ranked opponents to Norman. The Sooners host No. 3 Iowa State on Friday, Jan. 30, at 7 p.m. CT before taking on No. 13 Northern Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. CT. Both duals will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Friday night's dual against Iowa State will feature $2 beer, popcorn and soda for fans in attendance. Saturday's matchup versus Northern Iowa will serve as Country Night, highlighted by an OU cowboy boot coozie giveaway.

LAST TIME OUT

Oklahoma picked up its first conference victory of the season last week, rolling past Air Force, 38-4, in dominant fashion at McCasland Field House before suffering a narrow road loss at West Virginia, falling 19-17 in a tightly contested dual that came down to the final bouts.

Against Air Force, the Sooners claimed nine of 10 bouts and piled up four bonus-point wins, building an early advantage and maintaining control throughout the dual. Layton Schneider (157), Carter Schubert (174) and Anders Thompson (184) all recorded falls in the win.

SERIES HISTORIES

Iowa State

In a series that dates back to 1921, Oklahoma and Iowa State have met 102 times in dual competition, with Iowa State holding a 57-42-3 advantage all-time. The Cyclones have enjoyed recent success in the rivalry, including a 25-6 win over OU last season in Ames, and currently hold a seven-dual winning streak in the series.

Northern Iowa

Oklahoma and Northern Iowa have faced off several times since the early 2000s, with the Panthers holding a 10-2 edge in the series. Northern Iowa has won the last eight consecutive duals against the Sooners, including a 26-13 victory in Cedar Falls last season.

SOONERS IN THE RANKINGS

Oklahoma enters the weekend ranked No. 21 nationally by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA). The Sooners, ranked in the NWCA preseason top 25 for the third consecutive year, earned their highest starting position since 2021.

Seven Sooners appeared in the latest individual rankings (Jan. 27) from InterMat, FloWrestling and Open Mat: Conrad Hendriksen (125), Tyler Wells (141), Peyten Kellar (165), Carter Schubert (174), Brian Soldano (184), DJ Parker (197) and Juan Mora (285).

RUNNING THE GAUNTLET

Oklahoma has positioned itself to face one of the nation's toughest schedules in 2025-26. Beyond its season-opening road contest at No. 1 and four-time defending national champion Penn State, the Sooners have eight duals scheduled against teams currently ranked in the NWCA Coaches' Top 25 — five of which will take place on the road. In total, OU will face three top-five opponents, six ranked inside the top 20 and eight in the top 25. The Sooners also competed at the prestigious Cliff Keen Invitational, widely regarded as the premier regular-season tournament in college wrestling.
