Kennedy Stringfellow was named SEC Athlete of the Week after his astounding performance at the Owen Hewett Invitational, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Mississippi State transfer has made an immediate impact for the Sooners in just his second week of competition. Hailing from Brandon, Mississippi, the long jumper claimed first place at the Owen Hewett Invitational on Jan. 16 with a career-best leap of 8.29 meters (27'2.50"), winning by a wide margin. The mark broke the previous OU school record and currently ranks first in both the NCAA and the world. Stringfellow was also awarded the USTFCCCA Men's NCAA DI National Athlete of the Week title on Monday, Jan. 19.
