Soccer Opens 30th Season With Home Match Against Creighton

NORMAN  — Oklahoma soccer opens up its 30th season in program history with a home match against Creighton Thursday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m. from John Crain Field.

The match begins a stretch of five home games in the month of August, including three straight at John Crain to start the 2025 campaign.

THE SCOUT
Creighton went 8-7-2 last season and 5-4-1 in the Big East … the Blue Jays were bounced, 2-0, by Connecticut in the Big East Championship Quarterfinals a year ago … Creighton's last game against an SEC team was August 20, 2023 in a 3-1 loss to Missouri at home … the Blue Jays return their leading goal scorer from last season, Ariana Mondiri, who tallied five of Creighton's 21 goals on the season … goalkeeper Alyssa Zalac returns for her senior season after starting all 17 games in goal last season … head coach Jimmy Walker is in his second season leading the Blue Jays after head coaching stops at Bowling Green State, Findlay, Duquesne and Findlay.

SEC WATCH LIST
Six Sooners were named to the SEC Preseason Watch List, setting a program high after five were tabbed to the team last year. Naomi Clark, Caroline Duffy, Kayla Keefer, Hadley Murrell, Michelle Pak and Alexis Washington were all selected to the team. 

WATCH LIST WASHINGTON
Senior Alexis Washington returns having played in 58 games while making 57 starts across three seasons for the Sooners … Last week she was tabbed to the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Midfielders to Watch List … with 18 assists, Washington needs two more to set the OU career record for assists … she posted three goals and four assists last season, tied with incoming sophomore Juliette Rayo for the second most goals among OU returners. 

SENIORS FROM PROSPER
Seniors Hadley Murrell and Cassie Clifton, both out of Prosper, Texas, return a wealth of experience for the Sooners. Murrell started all 18 games last season and is the Sooners' leading scorer among all returners. Clifton logged the most minutes (1,574) of any Sooner player in 2024 outside of keeper Caroline Duffy

HOME SWEET HOME
OU plays 11 home matches this season, its most in a season since the 2009 campaign. Oklahoma starts the year with five home contests in the month of August, with OU playing six non-conference matches at John Crain Field. 

SUMMER SUCCESS
A trio of Sooners earned summer accolades in their respective leagues. Caroline Duffy was selected to the USLW All-League First Team with Annapolis Blues FC, while Riley Brown and Callie Sullivan earned defensive player of the year and goalkeeper of the year respectively in their conferences within the WPSL. 

TRANSFERS TO KNOW
The Sooners' roster features eight new transfers having joined after the 2024 season. The group includes:
FRESHMAN FACES
Oklahoma's roster features 11 freshman, 10 of which are true freshmen. Five of those student-athletes hail from within the state of Oklahoma. Morgan Paley returns at goalkeeper as a redshirt-freshman.
