NORMAN —
Cydney Sanders homered twice in the same inning and 10 different Sooners tallied at least one hit as No. 3 Oklahoma Softball (33-3) defeated St. Thomas (19-12), 12-4, in five innings Thursday in the Okana Invitational opener.
Sanders is the first Sooner to homer twice in the same inning since
Alynah Torres did so March 20, 2024, against UT Arlington.
Freshman
Corri Hicks and
Sydney Barker added homers in the fourth inning as OU notched its 17th run-rule win of the year.
After a scoreless first and top of the second, eight of OU's 11 batters that went to the plate scored in the second inning. Sanders started the frame with a solo home run to right field.
The baserunners started to pile up for OU from there.
Ailana Agbayani walked and
Isabela Emerling singled up the middle.
Abigale Dayton plated Agbayani with a squeeze bunt and
Nelly McEnroe-Marinas scored two with a single through the right side.
Kasidi Pickering singled to left center and
Gabbie Garcia doubled in McEnroe-Marinas with a liner inside the third-base bag.
Up 5-0, Sanders hit another one out of the park just right of dead center to drive in three and complete the big inning.
St. Thomas' Cassidy Carby doubled in one to get the Tommies on the board in the third. After
Isabella Smith spun a scoreless fourth, the Sooners tacked on four runs thanks to a three-run homer from Barker and a solo shot off the bat of Hicks.
The Tommies scratched across three runs in the fifth on a Jenna Kuhn pinch-hit home run and another run-scoring double from Carby. Agbayani made a diving play in the field and pitcher
Paytn Monticelli stranded a St. Thomas runner to complete the win.
