NORMAN — Oklahoma Softball was honored with a pair of Southeastern Conference (SEC) weekly honors, as junior second baseman
Ailana Agbayani was named SEC Player of the Week and redshirt-freshman third baseman
Nelly McEnroe-Marinas was selected as SEC Co-Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday, April 29.
Agbayani was also honored by Softball America with Star of the Week laurels. It's the first SEC weekly honor for both Agbayani and McEnroe-Marinas this season, bringing the Sooners to eight SEC weekly awards on the year.
Agbayani hit .750 (6-for-8) with five RBIs, three runs, two doubles, two walks, a grand slam and a 1.375 slugging percentage. She started the weekend off with a bang, tying her career high with five RBIs in OU's 7-6 series-opening win. In that game she hit her fourth career home run, a grand slam to put the Sooners up, 6-0. She followed that up with a game-winning RBI double. For the season she is hitting .339 with 28 runs, eight doubles, two home runs, 30 RBIs and just one error in 136 chances.
McEnroe-Marinas scored a pair of game-winning runs and upped her conference-leading home run total to 11 during league play. She hit .556 for the weekend, scoring a team-best six times while clubbing three extra-base hits. The redshirt-freshman is hitting .362 in 47 starts, tallying 55 runs, 14 doubles, a triple and 14 home runs. Last week she was also named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Freshman of the Year Top 25 list. She has homered at least once in all but one SEC series, while notching multi-home run games in four SEC series.
The No. 1/1 Sooners will conclude the regular season at No. 7/9 Florida Thursday, May 1 through Saturday, May 3.
