LAS VEGAS – After battling gusty winds on day one, Oklahoma men's golf bounced back in the second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate on Monday, firing the day's low round of 285 (-3) to climb five spots into a tie for fifth.
The fourth-ranked Sooners (T5, +16) sit just five shots out of third place, while Auburn (1, -3) leads the event as the only team in the red. UNLV trails the top-ranked Tigers by three shots with no other team within single digits.
Jase Summy (T11, +3) led the charge for Oklahoma, carding a 4-under 68 to move into a tie for 11th. His round featured birdies on Nos. 8-10, plus two more on 13 and 16, offsetting a lone bogey on 11.
Sophomore
Ryder Cowan (T16, +4) matched Summy's 68 (-4), sinking a field-best eight birdies on the day. However, four scattered bogeys kept him from going even lower. Cowan remains in the top 20, sitting in a tie for 16th after 36 holes.
After a rough opening round, All-American
Drew Goodman (T61, +11) rebounded with a 74 (+2) to post a counting score for the Sooners.
True freshman
Cameron Cheek (T16, +4) continued to impress in his lineup debut, signing for a 75 (+3). The Owasso, Okla., native sits tied with Cowan for 16th.
Asher Whitaker rounded out Oklahoma's lineup, posting a 78 (+6) to sit in a tie for 49th.
UNLV's Caden Fiorini (-10) holds a five-shot lead after 36 holes as the Rebel is one of four golfers under par for the week.
The Sooners will aim to break into the top three in Tuesday's final round, when they tee off with New Mexico (4, +12) and No. 9 Virginia (T5, +16).
