CARROLLTON, Texas – Oklahoma was dominant on the opening day of the Maridoe Intercollegiate, cruising to a 14-shot lead after 36 holes in Maridoe Golf Club.
The seventh-ranked Sooners (1, -8) will eye their fourth win of the season and first of the spring when they tee off in Tuesday's final round at the par-72 track. Four Sooners sit inside the top 10, with
Jase Summy leading the 78-player field by one stroke at 4-under par.
Summy turned in rounds of 71 and 69 on Monday, continuing a red-hot stretch. The junior from Keller, Texas, is chasing his second career win after finishing third and second in his last two starts. He'll be paired Tuesday with Arizona State's Michael Mjaaseth, who trails by one shot.
Ryder Cowan (T3, -2) is just two back of the lead after posting a pair of 71s. The sophomore tallied seven birdies across Monday's 36 holes and is chasing his fourth top-10 of the season and seventh of his career.
Drew Goodman (T6, -1) fired rounds of 70 and 73 to close his day at 1-under, while true freshman
Clark Van Gaalen (T8, E) posted 73-71 to finish even on the day. The two are in line for their fourth and second top 10s of the season, respectively.
Matthew Troutman (+4) rounded out the Oklahoma lineup and sits in a tie for 26th.
PJ Maybank III (T45, +8), playing as an individual, shares 45th.
The Sooners will chase their 49th tournament title under head coach
Ryan Hybl when they tee off at 8 a.m. CT alongside No. 3 Arizona State (T2, +6) and No. 4 Oklahoma State (T2, +6). No. 14 Alabama sits fourth at 10-over, followed by UNC-Greensboro in fifth at 13-over.
Oklahoma led the field in par-3, par-4 and par-5 scoring, ranked second in birdies (32) and were the only team in the 13-squad field to avoid a double-bogey or worse on Monday.
