PALM CITY, Fla. — Jase Summy led the way for Oklahoma on day one at the Valspar Collegiate Championship, firing a 65 (-6) to open the event, followed by a 64 (-7) in the afternoon to surge to the top of leaderboard thru 36 holes of play.

As a team, the seventh-ranked Sooners (3, -13) sit alone in third place at the two-day, 54-hole event with only Tuesday's final round left to play. The 17-team field features 11 of the nation's top 25, including Oklahoma.

Fresh off a top-three finish at last week's Pauma Valley Invite, Summy (1, -13) opened his day in the Sunshine State firing a 6-under 65 in the morning round before carding a 7-under 64 in the afternoon. Summy, a junior from Keller, Texas, opened his day with birdies on five of the first six holes and finished with 14 total birdies, leading the field in scoring on par 4s at 5-under. He enters Tuesday's final round at 13-under, ahead of Texas' Daniel Bennett and North Carolina's David Ford.

Sophomore Ryder Cowan rebounded from a rocky opening round that included three bogeys and a double bogey to shoot a 3-under 68, finishing the day at 1-under and tied for 27th. The Edmond, Okla., native will look to secure his third top-20 finish of the season.

Freshman Clark Van Gaalen eagled the par-5 13th but was kept from finishing under par after a triple bogey on the following hole, ending the day at even par and tied for 40th.

Drew Goodman (T50, +2) and Matthew Troutman (T72, +7) rounded out Oklahoma's lineup.

The Sooners tee off at 7:30 a.m. CT in Tuesday's final round. Live scoring will be available on Clippd
