CANÓVANAS, Puerto Rico – Oklahoma battled windy conditions in the second round of the Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday and sits in sixth, still within striking distance of the team title entering Wednesday's final round.
The Sooners (6, -19) posted a 282 (-6) at the par-72 Grand Reserve Golf Club, dropping two spots on the leaderboard. Led by
Drew Goodman in 12th, Oklahoma trails leader Purdue by nine shots with 18 holes to play.
Head coach
Ryan Hybl's squad traded birdies for pars on Tuesday, going from 14th in the 15-team field in pars after round one to second after round two. The Sooners played the front nine at just 2-under Tuesday before rallying on the back to stay in contention. In Monday's opening round, they were 5-under on the front and 8-under on the back.
All-American
Drew Goodman (T12, -6) leads the Sooners at 6-under, tying for 12th after a second-round 70 (-2). In four events this season, the Ben Hogan watch list honoree has produced three top-10 finishes.
PJ Maybank III (T25, -3) climbed 19 spots on the leaderboard after firing a team-low 69 (-3) in round two. The sophomore from Cheboygan, Mich., notched his eighth career round in the 60s.
Ryder Cowan (T16, -5) sits in 16th after an even-par 72. The sophomore has now posted seven consecutive rounds of par-or-better dating back to last fall.
Jase Summy (T29, -2) matched his opening-round score with a 1-under 71, marking his fifth straight under-par round.
Matthew Troutman (T32, -1) was 2-over on Tuesday and will need a strong final round to extend his streak of top-20 finishes to six.

Cameron Cheek (+6) is 73rd.
In the team race, Purdue (-28) leads, with top-ranked Ole Miss (-27) and South Carolina (-22) rounding out the top three. Georgia (-20) and LSU (-20) are tied for fourth, just one shot ahead of the Sooners as six teams remain within 10 strokes of the title. Purdue's Kent Hsiao (-12) and Ole Miss' Cohen Trolio (-12) are in a battle for the individual championship.
Oklahoma will aim to climb the leaderboard in Wednesday's final round, teeing off with Georgia (T4, -20) and LSU (T4, -20) at 5:30 a.m. CT.
