NORMAN – The Oklahoma wrestling team fell to West Virginia 22-13 on Friday night at McCasland Field House.

The No. 20 Sooners (6-2, 2-2 Big 12) were victorious in four bouts, but ultimately were downed by the No. 22 Mountaineers (8-3, 2-2 Big 12).

At 133 pounds, No. 22 Cleveland Belton picked up his third major decision of the season against West Virginia's Tommy Maddox, 14-3, to put the Sooners on the board. The senior used three takedowns, a four-point near fall and an escape to keep OU in the match early.

Making his second career start, the 141-pound bout saw freshman Alex Braun knock off No. 29 Jordan Titus, 3-2. The Woodbury, Minn., native landed his first shot late in the third period which proved to be the winning takedown.

No. 13 Willie McDougald took care of business at 149 pounds, using a pair of takedowns, a reversal and riding time to take home a team-leading 14th win.

Wrestling at 174, No. 8 Gaven Sax tallied OU's last win of the night, pulling out an 8-3 decision over No. 29 Brody Conley.

At 125, Oklahoma's No. 26 Antonio Lorenzo was defeated by No. 17 Jett Strickenberger, 11-2. The Mountaineers' Sasha Gavronsky topped Landyn Sommer by a 7-4 decision in the 157 match, while No. 3 Payton Hall of WVU teched No. 29 Tate Picklo, 17-2 (4:17) at 174.

At 184, OU's No. 22 DJ Parker dropped to No. 17 Dennis Robin, 11-5. Ian Bush of WVU defeated Bradley Hill 14-5 at 197. In the heavyweight bout, No. 19 Juan Mora dropped his second match of the season to Michael Wolfgram in sudden victory, 8-5.

Up next, the Sooners will travel north for back-to-back duals against No. 13 Iowa State (Jan. 24) and No. 5 Northern Iowa (Jan. 25). Both duals are scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
