BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The University of Oklahoma soccer team earned the program's first Southeastern Conference (SEC) win with a 2-1 result at Texas A&M in Bryan-College Station on Sunday afternoon.
Oklahoma (8-2-0, 1-1-0 SEC) was out-shot 10-6 by Texas A&M (6-4-0, 1-1-0 SEC) on the afternoon in a gritty defensive-minded match.
Ella Pappas scored her sixth goal of the season while
Michelle Pak tallied her second.
Pappas scored the first goal of the match just a few ticks into the 18th minute, cutting off an Aggie pass from the OU attacking box then taking two strong steps forward and launching a shot into the upper right corner of the frame. Texas A&M responded less than a minute later, drawing the match even at 1-1.
Oklahoma continued to pressure A&M's back line, earning a corner kick midway through the 26th minute.
Leonie Weber launched the ball towards the center of the goal area, creating a chaotic scrum as the Aggie keeper deflected it into the air. Pak found it off the crossbar and headed it in for the 2-1 advantage.
OU goalkeeper
Caroline Duffy improved to 8-2-0 on the year with a strong five-save effort. Her back line flexed its strength in the second half as the Sooners withstood six shots in the final 45 minutes.
The SEC win is the University of Oklahoma's first as a league member.
