SAN ANTONIO – A trio of Sooners are in the top 10 as No. 8 Oklahoma men's golf sits one shot back of the lead after the penultimate round of the Valero Texas Collegiate.
Oklahoma (2, -22) recorded a 2-under 286 on Sunday afternoon at TPC San Antonio in the 54-hole event, as No. 10 Ole Miss surpassed OU's opening-round advantage. The Rebels and Sooners will be paired with No. 5 Virginia (-12) in Monday's final round, with the Cavaliers sitting third on the leaderboard.
Jase Summy (T2, -8), who matched a program record with a 10-under performance yesterday, registered a 74 (+2) on Sunday and shares second place at the par-72 course. He trails Auburn's Josiah Gilbert by three strokes heading into the final round.
Also in the top 10,
Drew Goodman and
Matthew Troutman are tied for ninth at 3-under par. Goodman tallied a 74 after an opening-round 67, while Troutman recorded an even-par 72 on Sunday.
PJ Maybank III delivered the team's best score in the second round — a 6-under 66 — elevating him a field-high 59 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 22nd. The sophomore notched two eagles and six birdies en route to the second-lowest round of his OU career.
Ryder Cowan (T63, +5) completed the OU lineup with a 79 in San Antonio. Sharing 63rd with his teammate and playing unattached,
Clark Van Gaalen submitted a 2-over 74 on Sunday.
The Sooners will aim to overtake Ole Miss and secure their first victory of the season on Monday morning. Additionally, the individual champion will earn an exemption into the PGA Tour's 2025 Valero Texas Open.
OU tees off at 9:40 a.m. CT, starting with Cowan. The final group features Summy, Mississippi's Michael La Sasso (T2, -8), and Virginia's Ben James (5, -6) at goes off No. 1 at 10:20 a.m.
