Bedlam Awaits Soccer Thursday

NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma soccer team continues non-conference play with Bedlam in Stillwater Thursday. First touch vs. the No. 17-ranked Cowgirls is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.

OU opened its 2024 campaign with a 1-0 road result over North Texas and followed with a 2-1 win over FIU at John Crain Field. Leonie Weber provided her second career brace with two goals vs. FIU while Morganne Eikelbarner scored the Sooner goal in Denton.

The Sooners went 1-1 against Oklahoma State last season, falling 1-0 in the regular season finale then bouncing back with a 1-0 result in the first round of the conference tournament. Oklahoma's last win in Stillwater came on Oct. 14, 2016 by way of a 2-0 result. OU last faced a ranked Oklahoma State team during the 2020-21 season, dropping a 2-0 result to the then-No. 14 Cowgirls on March 27, 2021.
 

SEASON STORYLINES


 2024 Outlook: The Sooners were selected 13th in the 2024 SEC Preseason Coaches' Poll, sharing the rank with Florida. Five athletes were named to the SEC Preseason Watchlist as forwards Hadley Murrell, Alexis Washington and Leonie Weber, midfielder Cailey England and defender Andie Wolfe earned league recognition.

All About Oklahoma: OU produced an 8-10-2 mark in year one of the Matt Mott era, earning 11 points in conference play (3-5-2) to finish tied for ninth in the Big 12 table. Oklahoma returns 14 letterwinners from last season including seven starting outfielders. The Sooners added seven freshmen and eight transfers during the offseason including United Soccer Coaches all-region honorees Sophia Green (Omaha), Abigail McNulty (Boston University) and Morgan O'Connor (Ole Miss - UCF).

Historic Helper: Alexis Washington is is three assists away from moving into a tie for Oklahoma's program record of 18 held by Lauren MacIver.

OU x SEC: OU Soccer embarks on its inaugural season in the SEC this fall and will enjoy the honor of playing Oklahoma's first regular season event as a league member (Aug. 15 at North Texas) as well as the university's first SEC league game (Sept. 19 vs. Mississippi State).


UP NEXT

The Sooners continue their non-conference slate with a Sunday home match against Oral Roberts. The match is set to begin at 8 p.m. CT with a "Pups at the Pitch" theme, encouraging fans to bring their dogs to John Crain Field. A corgi race will be held at halftime.
