Sooners Fifth, Lorenz Third After 36 Holes at NCAA Regionals

RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – In the second round of the NCAA Rancho Santa Fe Regional, Oklahoma matched its first-round score, signing for a 284 (+4) as the Sooners are in fifth place as a team, five shots back of the lead after two days of play.

The Sooners (5, +8) are led by Ben Lorenz, who shares third on the individual leaderboard after 36 holes. Following Wednesday's final round, the top five teams on the leaderboard will advance to the NCAA Championships, which OU has advanced to 12 consecutive times.

Sixth-seeded North Florida (1, +3) leads the tournament, while California (2, +4), West Virginia (3, +5), Oklahoma State (4, +6) and the Sooners round out the top five. Host team San Diego sits sixth at 9-over, one back of Oklahoma, while No. 3 and top-seeded Arizona State is seventh at 10-over par. Washington and South Florida share eighth at 21-over par.

Lorenz (T3, -2) led the way for head coach Ryan Hybl's team on day two at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe. The senior posted a 69 (-1) at the 6,962-yard track to grab a share of third and sits just three strokes behind Cal's Sampson Zheng.

All-American Drew Goodman (T17, E) used an even-par 70 to move 14 spots up the leaderboard into 17th. The junior carded a pair of birdies on the back nine after two bogeys on the front to finish with a 70 (E).

Jase Summy sits in 22nd after a 75 (+5) on Tuesday afternoon.

True freshman Ryder Cowan (T30, +6) closed strong, rolling in three birdies over his last six to fire a 72 (+2) and jump to 30th. He shares the position on the leaderboard with Luke Kluver (T30, +6), who finished his day with a 73.

The Sooners will tee off at 10:30 a.m. CT with Oklahoma State (4, +6) and San Diego (6, +9) as teams battle for top-five and advancing spots on the leaderboard Wednesday.

Oklahoma has played in an NCAA Regional in each of the last 13 seasons. It has won six NCAA Regionals in school history, including victories in 2015, 2018 and 2022 under head coach Ryan Hybl.
