NORMAN – Oklahoma Softball freshmen
Ella Parker and
Kasidi Pickering have named to the 2024 TUCCI/NFCA DI Freshman of the Year Top 25 watchlist, the organization announced Thursday.
Since its inception in 2014, the Tucci/NFCA National Freshman of the Year award has recognized the Nation's top freshman in several collegiate divisions. Paige Parker (2015), Jocelyn Alo (2018),
Tiare Jennings (2021) and
Jordy Bahl (2022) each won the award in their debut season with the Sooners. No other NCAA program has had more than one winner.
Oklahoma is one of just two programs with two representatives among the Top 25, joined by Big 12 foe Texas. The Sooners now have produced 11 Top 25 members in the program's history, most of any NCAA DI program since the NFCA implemented the Top 25 watchlist.
Parker is sixth among her teammates in hitting at .394, reaching base at a .511 clip and slugging .670 for a 1.181 OPS. She adds nine doubles, seven home runs and 39 RBIs and has walked in 18.0% of her trips to the plate. The Los Angeles, California product has produced 11 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI performances.
Pickering slashes .378/.504/.633 for a 1.137 OPS this season. She has collected eight doubles and five homers to go with 31 RBIs while logging strong defense in both outfield corners. The Humble, Texas product has produced 11 multi-hit efforts and seven multi-RBI games.
