Men's Golf Opens Spring in Puerto Rico
February 09, 2024 | Men's Golf
RIO GRANDE, Puertio Rico — The Oklahoma men's golf team opens its spring season on Sunday at the 31st annual Puerto Rico Classic, an event that the Sooners have won the last two years. The 54-hole event is played at the Grand Reserve Golf Club, home of the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open, played a few weeks after the Classic.
Fifteen teams will compete in the tournament, including five ranked teams outside of No. 15 Oklahoma. A trio of top-10 foes in the latest Clippd college golf rankings will look to keep the Sooners away from a three-peat. Tee times will be available on Saturday evening.
Head coach Ryan Hybl brings seven golfers to the tournament, which features the standard five-count-four format. OU's lineup consists of All-Americans Drew Goodman and JaseSummy, freshmen Ryder Cowan and PJ Maybank III and Haskins Award hopeful Luke Kluver. Stephen Campbell Jr., Ben Lorenz and Jaxon Dowell will compete unattached from the lineup in the individual race.
Admission to the tournament is free.
