NORMAN — The No. 21 Oklahoma wrestling team rolled to a non-conference dual win Friday night, topping Central Michigan 28-6 at McCasland Field House.
The Sooners (3-0, 2-0 Big 12) won their first two matches to take an 8-0 lead in the dual, an advantage they would hold on to until the final whistle. Four of OU's eight wins on the evening came with bonus points. The night was highlighted by major decision victories from Mosha Schwartz, Willie McDougald, Gaven Sax and DJ Parker. As a team, the Sooners have won 25 of 30 bouts in dual action this season.
Starting at 141 pounds, senior No. 14 Schwartz secured the first win for the Sooners against Central Michigan's Kellan Aure. The senior carried a 4-1 lead into the third period before closing it out with a pair of takedowns and riding time to record an 11-3 major decision. The bonus point victory marked the fifth consecutive time in which Schwartz has opened a season with three straight dual wins.
No.18 McDougald (149) joined the party, giving the Sooners an 8-0 lead with a 14-4 major decision of his own against CMU's Mason Shrader. The junior racked up four takedowns, an escape and riding time on his way to victory.
Oklahoma's next win of the night came courtesy of No. 31 Tate Picklo at 165 pounds, who defeated Chandler Amaker by a 12-6 decision, advancing the Sooner lead to 11-3. The junior erased an early 3-0 deficit by adding three takedowns, a pair of escapes and riding time to tack on three more points for the Sooners in the team race.
In a top-20 matchup of undefeated wrestlers at 174 pounds, No. 7 Sax added a 9-1 victory over the Chippewas' No. 17 Alex Cramer. The North Dakota State transfer has outscored opponents 30-1 in dual action so far this season.
At 184, No. 25 Parker continued the Sooners' momentum, recording a 12-1 win over Adrien Cramer. It marked the redshirt junior's third major decision of the year, matching freshman Beric Jordan's season total.
In the heavyweight bout, No. 24 Juan Mora stayed perfect on the season by defeating CMU's No. 25 Bryan Caves, 8-3. The junior improved his record to 6-0, including a 3-0 mark against ranked opponents.
No. 27 Antonio Lorenzo (125) held on for a 9-6 win against Kaden Chinavare. The defending Big 12 Wrestler of the Week worked well from the bottom position in the third period, scoring two escapes to pull away from the Chippewa lightweight.
Closing the dual out at 133, No. 17 Cleveland Belton beat Sean Spidle via 4-1 decision.
Making his first start of the season, OU's KJ Evans (157) was defeated by No. 17 Johnny Lovett in sudden victory, 5-3. No. 29 Bradley Hill was topped by Luke Cochran, 8-6 at 197 pounds.
The Sooners now turn their focus to Oklahoma State for the 189th edition of Bedlam wrestling. OU will take the mat against No. 3 Oklahoma State on Friday, Dec. 13 at 7:00 p.m. CT inside McCasland Field House.
